Things I May (or should) Have Learned from Jane Austen
The best way to get to know someone is to invite them for tea
Arrange the flowers, admire the horses, play with the dogs
It’s good to have someone in the family who plays the piano very well
Make the room pretty, invite people over, and feed them
Wit will get you a long way
Graciousness is a virtue
Wear the right hat for the occasion
An invitation is best replied to promptly
Do not show up uninvited, likewise do not overstay your welcome
Candlelight is always flattering
Reciprocate
The afternoon is for reading
Correspondence can be tricky
Share the harvest
A trip to the seashore cures many ills
Fresh air and exercise are always beneficial
Appearances can be deceiving
People who don’t keep their word should not be trusted
Kindness should not be mistaken for sincerity
When heartbroken, arrange for a change of scene in society
Miscommunication is the cause of most strife
It may take twenty or thirty years, but love usually works out
Apologize with grace
One’s life can change in an instant
Many are victims of circumstance
Some things are not meant to be
