Someone asked me today if I was an artist, and my first inclination was to say ‘No’. These days I mostly arrange other people’s art, or help others choose art, and perhaps that in itself is an art, but it doesn’t actually make me an artist. Sometimes I write, and though creative, that doesn’t make me an artist either. I’ve made some fairly mediocre collage and done some bad sketching, but millinery is as close as I’ve come to sculpture. Fashion is wearable art, particularly when it’s original, or created by hand. So I guess maybe I am an artist, and maybe I should stop saying ‘No’ when asked that question. How about you?
