Creating a Space for Work

Many of us are working from home these days, and it can be difficult to separate the work we do for a living from the work we do to live. The distractions of the house abound. That’s why we need to create a place just for work.

I am a fan of small spaces, perhaps from growing up in apartments, or maybe I just like the challenge of making something from nothing. I’ve found that creating room to work does not require a ‘room’ – I’m writing this at a standing desk in my ‘office’ which once thought it was a closet, and all of 43 square feet – but it does need to be a place where you only work (and only you work), a place that can house all of the things you use during your work day (and nothing that you don’t) in an ergonomic, functional way. A place that inspires you to get to it, and get stuff done.

Do you have a place you can carve out; add a little storage and a chair? Does it have good light? Can you add some? Maybe there’s a spot under the stairs, or a corner in an area that doesn’t have a lot of traffic. Hang some shelves, bring in a few good looking storage containers or an under-the-desk file drawer, (maybe a bit of wallpaper), and claim this spot as your own. Need some help? Give me a ring and we’ll get to work.
